我所有的工作坊都有一些共同的基礎:它們的目標都是擴展你對發聲和聆聽的意識與技能。不僅僅是針對音樂,而是針對我們聽到和發出的所有聲音範疇。那麼,這些工作坊有什麼不同呢?以下是各個工作坊中我們所學到的技巧的大致區分。
- 聲音瑜伽的重點是建立聲音、心靈和身體之間更深的直覺聯繫。起點總是身體鍛煉和冥想,從中產生更豐富、更具體的聲音。雖然我們唱很多歌,但在這個工作坊中我們從不涉及音樂的細節或技能。目的是讓你在更深層次上以更大的意識體驗你的聲音,完全接納此刻你的聲音狀態。
- 唱入當下專注於理解即興創作如何滲透到我們的日常活動中,以及如何將其變成你作為演講者、歌手或溝通者的發聲活動的一部分。這個工作坊中的重點和討論更偏向音樂。如果你對音高或模仿旋律有很大困難,這個工作坊可能不太適合你。但是,你不需要識譜或知道自己唱的是什麼音符。
- Nokyo念誦的重點接近於語言表達,這自然是一種極其豐富的自我表達和與他人「分享聲音」的方式,但對其中的細節並不會有太多的身體意識;它也填補了現代無神論者或尋求靈性的人的宗教空白。
- 聲音的海洋的重點是那些在大眾媒體時代之前,一直是社群一部分的失傳音樂傳統。我們不再自然而然地擁有一整套可以一起唱歌或演奏的靈感技能,比如在電視和廣播出現前,那些標誌著重要社會/生活事件和節日的歌曲和旋律。這個工作坊旨在通過古老與新創的歌曲與詠唱、節奏遊戲、讚美詩和和聲來彌補這一空白。
- 聲音的共鳴工作坊的重點是探索泛音,它是一種非常微妙的能量,貫穿於我們的語言交流、音樂聆聽和音樂創作中。我們一方面通過學習特定的發音和語音技能,來引出我們聲音中的泛音。另一方面,我們會研究整個共鳴領域、音色、聲音頻譜以及身體和心靈內外的波動面向。
每個工作坊都讓你以全新的方式看待藝術、文化和音樂,擴展你的創造性想像力和技能,有時給你很大的自由去找到自己的方式,有時則有非常明確的框架。這些實踐並不相互排斥,而是有所重疊,並且各自有明確的側重點。許多學生認為探索所有工作坊是值得的,有些人會一再回到某一個工作坊,因為你做得越多,理解就會逐漸加深。

All my workshops have some common ground: altogether, they aim to expand your awareness of and your skill in sound making and listening. Not just for music, but really the entire scope of sound we hear and make. So what makes these workshops different then? Here are some rough distinctions between various skills we learn in my workshops.
For Voice Yoga, the focus is on establishing a deeper intuitive connection of sound mind and body. The starting point is always physical exercise and meditations, from which a richer, more embodied sound emerges. Although we sing a lot, we never go into musical details or skills in this workshop. The point is to let you experience your voice on a deeper level with greater awareness, and totally accepting your voice the way it is in this moment.
For Catch the Spirit of the Moment, the focus is on understanding how improvisation runs through many of our daily activities, and in learning how it can become part of your sound-making activities as a speaker, singer or communicator. The emphasis and the talk is much more about music. If you have great difficulty knowing your own pitches or copying a melody, this workshop may be less suitable for you though. But you do not need to read music or know what notes you sing.
For Nokyo chanting, the focus is on something close to speech, which is naturally an incredibly rich way to express ourselves and ‘share sound’ with others, but without much bodily awareness of all its fine details; it also fills the gap of religions that are lost for modern atheists or spiritual seekers.
For Ocean of Voices, the focus is on lost musical traditions that have always been part of communities until the age of mass media. We no longer automatically embody a whole set of inspirational skills to sing or play together, such as those that mark important social / life events and calendar days before TV and radio. This workshop aims to fill this gap with old and new songs and chants, with rhythmic play, and with hymns and harmonies.
For RESONANCE, the focus is on working with overtones as a very subtle energy that runs through our verbal communication channels, our musical hearing and our music making. On the one hand we do this by learning specific skills of articulation and voicing that bring out the overtones of our voice. On the other we look at the whole field of resonance, timbre, the sound spectrum and aspects of vibration in and around the body and mind.
Each and every workshop thus lets you look at music and sound in new ways. It allows you to expand your creative imagination and your skills, sometimes with much freedom to find your own way, sometimes in very clear formats. These practices are not mutually exclusive but overlap, and yet the focus clearly differs. Some students find it worthwhile to explore them all, and some return again and again to the some one, as you will gradually deepen your understanding, the more you do it.
